The latest comings and goings in the Bird Garden include the arrival of a pair of Burrowing Owls. Unlike most other Owl species, these little North & South American Owls are active during the day, so visitors will be able to see them going about their daily routine near to their burrow where they live and roost.
Our largest bird, Agatha the Ostrich has recently retired and is now living in Suffolk. Agatha’s new enclosure is almost as big as the whole Bird Garden, which she’ll be sharing with other African species such as Rhino, Giraffe and a small herd of Zebra, not forgetting a male and several other female Ostrich!
We will soon have a new flock of ‘Quaker’ or Monk Parakeets. These Argentinean birds build distinctive colony nests which in the wild can be as large as a small car. Each pair of birds live in separate apartments each with its own entrance, with the nests often engulfing the structures or trees they are built on.
The juvenile male Stanley Crane will soon be going to Wraclow Zoo in Poland as part of the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme…we’ll keep you posted with any new developments as always!
Our ever-popular Red Kite and Bat Walks take place throughout the year and can be pre-booked. Visit our Whats On webpages for details.
