This Autumn/Winter season at Harewood sees a continuation of our ‘250 Years of Innovation’ celebrations, as well as an extended showing of our current exhibition Twenty One (open until 19th Sept), looking back on 21 years of the Terrace Gallery and contemporary art programme at Harewood.
New exhibitions for this part of the season focus on some of Harewood’s miniature masterpieces (Presence or Absence: Women in Miniature and In the Detail 25th Sept – 31st Oct) – portrait miniatures and small decorative treasures from the collection – that are rarely seen and often overlooked.
In the Terrace Gallery we continue Harewood’s tradition of dynamic programming with an exhibition of recent works by intriguing painter Eleanor Moreton (Im Wartezimmer 25th Sept – 31st Oct).
2011 already promises to be an exciting year as we have a major Epstein exhibition in the pipeline. Sir Jacob Epstein’s Adam is to be temporarily removed from the Entrance Hall at Harewood and transported to the Royal Academy in London for conservation work. Adam’s current dark onyx-type appearance is a consequence of a coating which was applied many years ago prior to purchase by Lord Harewood; Adam is in fact alabaster and when conserved his clean, off-white translucent look will be restored.
Art lovers will also be pleased to hear our exhibitions archive is now available to browse online so you can look back as well as forward to the new season’s shows. Use the exhibitions filter on our Whats On Exhibitions pages to view past, present or future exhibitions.
Our Women in Miniature exhibition is taking place in conjunction with imove. Click here to find out more about imove and Harewood's imove projects.
