If you haven’t been to the Walled Garden recently you’ll be amazed with the progress we’ve made!
The new beds are all planted up and harvesting is well underway. Utilising a full acre of the area within the Walled Garden and resembling a communal allotment, the layout of the new garden was designed by artist Diane Howse and comprises a series of plots varying in size with grass paths set out in such a way as to orientate the visitor around the garden.
A pavilion-type structure representing the iconic ‘shed’ is planned in the near future as the centrepiece to the garden and will become a feature attraction for visitors.
Thanks to the energy, enthusiasm and determination of craft gardener, Helen Aldridge and a considerable team-effort by staff and volunteers, the intensive production of vegetables continues apace to supply the demand from the restaurant and shop.
Meanwhile, the number of visitors to the Walled Garden has soared in recent months as they come to witness a transformation taking place and perhaps catch a glimpse of what the garden might have been like in its heyday.
Produce is now available in the Courtyard Shop as well as brews from our very own hops - Harewood Bitter and Harewood Pale Ale.
