The Government of Australia has appointed Lord Harewood as an Honorary Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his service to the arts in Australia and supporting Australia’s artists in the UK.
As an opera impresario, and an arts and festival director, The Earl of Harewood has made a valuable contribution to the arts in Australia over many years. He has served as a patron to numerous arts organisations and societies in Australia, and also to the Australian Music Foundation in London.
Honorary awards in the Order of Australia are made to persons who are not Australian citizens and the award of Member will entitle Lord Harewood to use the post-nominal AM.
The award was presented by John Dauth, Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO), High Commissioner for Australia. Mr Dauth is a career diplomat who, among other positions, worked at Buckingham Palace in the 1970’s as Press Secretary to the Prince of Wales.
