Taking place at Harewood between 31st July and 7th August, the exclusive Centenary Camp will be home to around 5000 UK Guides and 2000 international guests for a week of activities and events...
The event has been organised to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Girl Guides Association, now known as Girlguiding UK. And the decision to hold the celebrations in the Earl of Harewood’s back garden provides a neat link to the past, as his mother, HRH Princess Mary, was president of the association from 1920 until her death in 1965.
Chris Bond, Girlguiding UK's camp’s communications director, said: “This promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime event for thousands of girls, young women and adults. We can’t wait to welcome the UK and international members and kick off a week to remember!”
Guides staying at Harewood will be able to take part in activities such as go-karting, bungee trampolining and even sledging, courtesy of eight tonnes of snow that is being brought in from Glasshoughton’s Xscape complex.
The highlight of the event, however, will be a one-day spectacular taking place on Wednesday 4th August. The 5,000 campers will be joined for the day by another 15,000 Guides and younger members of the movement like Brownies for an entertainment extravaganza called Fusion.
It will feature more than 1,000 professional street theatre artists plus workshops and a performance from the National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra.
Harewood will be closed to the public and members on Wednesday 4th August but you can join us on the 3rd August to enjoy a preview of the entertainment and activities on offer...
The Fusion event rehearsal will be taking place throughout the day on Tuesday 3rd August and all our visitors on the day are welcome to have a sneak preview of the event!
