Harewood launches into its spring exhibitions celebrating 250 years of innovation at Harewood.
Fragile Stories runs from 2nd April until 13th June in the House. The exhibition showcases beautiful pieces drawn from different countries around the world: striking blue, red and gold Japanese Imari wares; creamy celadon-glazed porcelain from China; the explosive colour and shapes of the Sèvres factory in France. The exhibition will reveal the amazing stories behind this fabulous collection, created over the centuries by passionate connoisseurs such as Edward, the first Viscount Lascelles. Tickets are also now available online or from the box office for an illustrated lecture, Fragile Stories: The Harewood Ceramics Collection on the 6th May – the perfect opportunity to find out more.
Awesome Movement /Fantastic Motion takes place at the same time in the Terrace Gallery and is a response to Harewood’s 2010 theme of innovation. Jay Cover, Nicolas Burrows and William Edmonds are designers, artists, illustrators and musicians who work under the name Nous Vous.
Moving to the Servants' Hall you will see Northern Art Prize winner Paul Rooney's film Bellevue. It was filmed on location at Harewood last Summer, and will be showing this year until 20th June.
Coming Soon…Twenty-One 19th June – 22nd August
In 1989 the Terrace Gallery was established at Harewood by artist/curator Diane Howse: a radical gesture in its day and the first dedicated contemporary art space in the setting of a country house. In 2010 we celebrate the Gallery’s coming of age and look back on twenty-one years of the exhibitions programme, which has shown work by luminaries including Mark Wallinger, Anya Gallaccio, Marc Quinn, Sonia Boyce, Andy Goldsworthy, Bill Viola, Jason Brooks, Leo Fitzmaurice, Dan Graham and many many more. In 2010 we invite 21 artists, writers, curators, performers and others to respond to the collections at Harewood, throwing new light on objects, themes and locations specially selected by them from across the House and gardens.
