At Harewood visitors have the opportunity of seeing some of the world's rarest birds.
The Bird Garden was opened in 1970 and stands on a sloping 4-acre site between Stables and Lake. Every attempt has been made to make it seem part of Capability Brown's landscape, but it nonetheless provides a home to some 120 species of exotic, non-British birds, a third of which are considered vulnerable or endangered in their native habitat.
It comprises over 40 aviaries (built of wood and local stone) and a range of open enclosures. The Lake itself is home to a variety of birds, including a flock of Chilean Flamingoes, as well as migratory species.
