What is now the Education and Family Activity Room was once a Still-Room, used for making and storing jams and preserves, this space became the Housekeeper’s room in the 1840s and was where female servants were governed and their domestic duties arranged.
During the week the education room is used by formal school groups, nurseries, universities and colleges as a resource and workshop centre. We write poetry, handle historical objects, debate issues and play with replica toys in this space.
At the weekends the room becomes a haven of building blocks and paper activities as an unsupervised family activity area and a place where intergenerational learning and play can happen.
For more information on our educational activities please visit the Learning & Access section of the main Harewood website.
