    Primary Teachers CPD Classes in Art and Design

    Harewood is launching a series of continuing professional development day workshops in Art and Design for Primary School Teachers...perfect for Primary Teachers as well as Design and Technology Subject Leaders.

    Classes are £85 per day (9.30am - 3.30pm in the Education Suite at Harewood) and you can sign up to one, or the whole course as you please!

    We are pleased to be working with Jo York, Visual Arts Consultant with over 20 year’s experience in the arts and education and also the Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation.

    About the Classes...

    Classes will take account of participants' previous knowledge and experience - helping you to identify development opportunities, model effective learning and teaching strategies, develop skills, knowledge and understanding which will be practical, relevant and applicable to your current role or career aspiration, and evaluate your progress throughout.

    The day will include a buffet lunch and opportunity to enjoy the Gardens and Grounds or a coffee from our Courtyard Cafe after you finish for the day.

    Wednesday 9th May 2012: Developing Art & Cross Curricular Work

    Using Artists and their work as a starting point for creative work across the Primary curriculum, this course will explore exciting ways of developing art and cross-curricular work, and will draw on Harewood and its collections and environment as a fantastic resource.

    Wednesday 6th June 2012: Learning through Art and Design

    A rationale for Primary Art teaching leading to exciting and practical curriculum ideas. Everything you need to know for effective curriculum planning.

    Wednesday 4th July 2012: Art Materials and Techniques

    Art Materials and Techniques. A non-scary guide for non-subject specialists! Tips and tricks for key media and techniques with loads of ideas for classroom activities.

    Wednesday 19th September 2012: Working in Colour!

    Working in Colour! All you need to know about painting and other colour media, and how to use them. Practical strategies, project ideas, colour theory and mixing, tips, tricks and cross-curriculum links.

    Wednesday 10th October 2012: Display for Learning

    Using display and the way your school presents itself as a powerful learning tool-How to display a wide range of children's work and develop an attractive working and learning environment.

    Wednesday 7th November 2012: Practical Printmaking

    Learn a wide range of printmaking techniques with ideas for exciting classroom projects.

    Wednesday 5th December 2012: 3D Key Skills and Techniques

    Tips, tricks and all you need to know about working in 3D media.

    I am an artist and teacher with over 20 year’s experience in the arts and education across all phases; including teaching, consultancy and training as well as freelance art work.

    The visual arts have enormous power and potential for young people and I’m passionate about strengthening the quality and impact of Art and Design teaching and learning.

    I’ve been the Art consultant to North Yorkshire LA since 2003 and particularly enjoy working with non-subject specialist staff to build their skills and confidence in delivering an exciting and effective Art and Design curriculum.
