This comfortable and informal room has views onto the East Garden and, to the
South, the Terrace, designed by Barry in the 1840s. The gentle undulations of Capability Brown's landscape lie beyond.
For the last 40 years, the 7th Earl and Countess of Harewood have quite unintentionally put together what is a unique and thoroughly thrilling collection of 20th-century painting, drawing and sculpture by British and International artists, some of whom were in their time unfashionable or unacceptable, misinterpreted and misunderstood.
Bronzes in this room are by Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, Sir Jacob Epstein and Austin Bennett.
Works included in the modern collection (or the 'new things' as Lord Harewood calls them) are by Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, Egon Schiele, Sir Sidney Nolan, Walter Sickert and John Piper.
