Lakeside Garden Walk

Stroll through mature woodland and rhododendrons and view the lake with its plentiful wildlife. Approx. 1 hour

Map of the Grounds & Gardens A pleasant walk through the West Garden, a developing arboretum, leads to the Courtyard and entrance to the Bird Garden.

In spring this area is covered in drifts of Narcissus, Scilla and Chionodoxa and in autumn the different varieties of oak and maple provide a spectacle of rich colour.

Other trees of note include the spreading Cedar of Lebanon, the Sierra Redwood and the Judas Tree. The Judas Tree bears its reddish purple flowers on bare wood in spring.

The Lakeside Walk meanders through the old South Pleasure Grounds with its majestic oaks, beeches, yews and sweet chestnuts.

The woodland is enhanced by glades of naturalised bulbs and Harewood’s unique collection of rhododendron, which give a sustained display of colour from March until July. There are beautiful vistas across 'Capability' Brown's lake and opportunities to observe the abundant wildlife.

A special way to enjoy the Lake and to discover an unexpected view of the House is to take a trip on the boat 'Capability' which leaves from a jetty near the Cascade, when it is sailing. (For information on the boat contact the Harewood information centre.)

A path from the lake head leads downwards into another exotic feature of Harewood’s diverse gardens, the Himalayan Garden and the Harewood Stupa.
