Game & Wildlife Programmes
In recent years great emphasis has been placed on creation of new habitat for game and wildlife.
The Game and Wildlife team look after all predator control, manage the shoot and the fishery and constantly review habitat improvement.
This carefully balanced management has already produced some notable successes. Buzzards have returned to Harewood and bred here successfully. Peregrine falcons, Merlins, Buzzards, Kestrels and Barn Owls are regularly seen and a recent joint initiative with English Nature and the RSPB has seen the reintroduction of the Red Kite to the Yorkshire countryside for the first time in over 100 years. The Estate has a healthy population of larger mammals such as Red Deer, Roe Deer, Fallow Deer, Brown Hare, foxes, and badgers. This healthy diversity of species is most welcome and it is hoped that it will continue to grow.
