Harewood is both a place for inspiration for poetry, literature and drama, and a real context for using and understanding written factual information.

Resources
Use the surroundings of Harewood and the portraits in the House as inspiration for creative writing, creating inventories and lists and finding facts.

Maids and Mistresses The Maids and Mistresses trail is based around the ideas and realities of women within the Yorkshire County House. Use the characters and portraits of the women of Harewood for creative writing such as diary entries, plays, letters, poems and stories.

Contact us for a Resource Pack or follow link at the bottom of the page to download.

Alongside the exhibition we have developed a children’s book on the Women of Harewood. This can be used to encourage reading and develop literacy skills. There are several copies in the House and Below Stairs.

Would you like to pilot materials with your group? Do you have your own activities that have worked well here and you would like to share with other schools?

Do you know the site well and have other suggestions? We'd love to hear from you. Please contact us to take this further.

Openminds workshops
We are continuing to run workshop days led by specialist artists, writers and scientists connected to our current exhibitions. Contact us for details of upcoming workshops.

For details of previous workshops see The Original Openminds Project.
