Harewood has been created by generations of artists and designers using the technology available to them in their era. From 'Capability' Brown's parkland to Thomas Chippendale's furniture, Turner's landscapes to Angelica Kaufmann's decorative panel paintings Harewood is rich with source material to inspire children and young people.
Resources
Use the gardens and grounds as inspiration for:
Year 1/2 (Unit 2B) “Mother Nature, Designer”

A Teacher resource pack is available to support the above units, follow the link at the bottom of the page to download the pack or contact us for a copy.
Why not include a craft element to your science visit to the Bird Garden? See our Science section for details.
Use the outside of the House, All Saint’s Church and architectural details around the site as a basis for:
Year 7 (Unit 7B) “What’s in a Building?”
Use the Robert Adam ceilings, classical patterns and printed designs on silk wallpaper as a springboard for work on:
Year 3/4 (Unit 3B) “Investigating Pattern”
Resources using furniture and paintings in the House:
Unit 4B "Take a Seat - Chairs"
Unit 3A "Portraying Relationships"
Unit 6B "What a Performance!"
Download these resources from the bottom of this page.
Most of our paper-based resources can be themed towards Art and Design:
Many of the trails include art and design.
Use the Maids and Mistresses Resource Pack and the idea that women had to be ‘accomplished’ as a springboard for artwork. (pack available to download follow link at bottom of page)
The Key Stage 1 “Homes Long Ago” pack includes an element of design.
Would you like to pilot materials with your group? Do you have your own activities that have worked well here and you would like to share with other schools?
Do you know the site well and have other suggestions? We'd love to hear from you. Please contact us to take this further.
