Harewood House main website
This year Harewood is celebrating the Lascelles family’s historic link with China.

Like many other aristocratic families the Lascelles had a close association with the East India Company especially via Henry Lascelles (1716-1786) who was the Captain of an East India ship in the 1740s and 1750s.

The tradition of acquiring objects from China, Japan and India has continued to the present day and the house contains exquisite items dating from the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) through to the 20th century.

A highlight of the ‘China at Harewood’ programme is the newly refurbished East Bedroom in which there is a recently conserved Chinese wallpaper dating from the 1760s.
