In 1988 around 20 sheets of hand painted Chinese wallpaper were found rolled up in the outbuildings of Harewood House. Research showed that the rolls would form a complete scheme, possibly hung in the Chintz Bedroom by Chippendale’s men in December 1769.
During our closed season the wallpaper, described by experts as "possibly the finest example of Chinese wallpaper anywhere in the World" has been painstakingly conserved and hung in the East Bedroom on the State Floor of the House.
Throughout the 2008 season there will be a wide range of events such as dragon boat racing, kite flying and a Chinese culture day. Two Chinese contemporary artists, Fiona Wong and Wilson Shieh, will be exhibiting new work in the Terrace Gallery from 17th May to 3rd August.
