Welcome to Harewood Bird Garden
Overview | Bird Garden Guide | Conservation | Research | Bird Adoption

Conservation and Research for the future
Harewood Bird Garden is one of the country's most important avian collections. Over a hundred species of threatened and exotic birds are housed in sympathetic environments with the aim of promoting an understanding and awareness of birds and their environment, through conservation, exhibition and interpretation.

The Bird Garden is an active member of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) and participates in various captive breeding programmes. Our strong links with the World Pheasant Association (WPA) mean we are also involved in a number of pheasant conservation strategies.

A visit to the Bird Garden is about enjoying the beauty, splendour and diversity of the world's birds, and we hope it will make you as enthusiastic for their conservation as Lord and Lady Harewood and all the Harewood staff. We all share a commitment that means that today the Bird Garden stands as a testament to good practice in conservation in a world where hundreds of species are critically endangered.

Harewood Bird Adoption
Why not join the Bird Adoption Scheme, a special and unusual gift or a great way of personally supporting our conservation work. Visit the Bird Adoption pages of our website for full details. The Bird Garden Guide lists all our current resident species.

Penguin & Ostrich Feeding
Would you like to help the Bird Garden Keepers to feed the penguins or Ostriches?
The Penguins stick to fish but our Ostriches are particularly fond of sprouts!
Penguin Feeding takes place daily at 2pm and Ostrich Feeding daily at 3pm. It costs just £10 and can be booked through the Harewood Information Centre on 0113 218 1000.

Red Kites at Harewood
Red Kites were released on the Harewood Estate in 1999 as part of a UK conservation initiative.
The RSPB will be with us on Saturdays/Sundays throughout the season to talk about and look out for these incredibly striking birds.
Please call to check on the day that the RSPB team will be on site if you are travelling especially for the Kite Viewing!
